Time of the week I set down what I think people should listen. For all those who love IT and are going into security, I have always been a fan of CNET’s security bites. It used to be two guys, experts in IT security speak about security news, but now mainly consists of Robert Vamosi interviewing top-notch security experts or security vendors and the great thing is that it is not extraordinarily long, most clock in under 20-minutes.

Check it out here

Back when podcasts first sparked my interest in 2004, there was a this one particular podcast (it is actually just a recorded lecture) that launched my interest in programming to higher levels to the point that I wanted to actually be one.

Paul Graham, a renowned hacker, writer and entrepreneur author of Hackers and Painters and his speech (at the Open Source Convention (OSCON) 2004) on how to treat great hackers was quite inspiring to me. In it he describes what differentiates a good hacker to a great hacker and what a business needs to do to keep them around. Listen and enjoy this 30 minute podcast. There is also a written version on Paul Graham’s website linked here.

More info on Paul Graham here

Another recording for his book here.

Edit: Added some wikipedia links, as well as a link to another Hackers and Painters podcast.

New feature that I am trying to roll out, which will hopefully keep me blogging for a semi-regular period. I’m a pretty huge podcast freak and my goal is to choose one out of the tons of podcasts I listen to that I think is the most awesome for the week, it could come in the form of a recommendation for a series (which I will be doing today) or a single podcast recording. This week’s pick is one by 43Folders fame, Merlin Mann’s podcast entitled, “You Look Nice Today”. It is one of the most hilarious and well produced podcasts out there and is at its 18th incarnation. It reminds me of my former coworkers, they sound semi-serious, but are awesomely hilarious. Episode 18 is specifically about gas stations on Indian burial grounds. Episodes are interweaved with the intro classic upbeat jingle and crazed drunk sounding phrases. Give it a listen and if you don’t start laughing within the first minute, then you sir/madam have no sense of humor.
